The Guardian newspaper in the UK has put up a comparison of attitudes of people in 1982 (when Prince William was born) and 2013 (when Prince William's son was born).

The pictures show the people waiting to see the new royal baby for the first time. What are some of the differences between the pictures?

Think about:                                    1982                                        2013

  • clothes

  • hairstyles

  • technology
You can also click on the pictures to see the how attitudes have changed.

Most of the data shows the results of surveys in the UK.

TASK 1 - WRITING / UNDERSTANDING DATA
How would you draw the data as a graph?

a) line graph
b) pie chart
c) bar chart

Try to use the descriptions to draw your own data, based on the description.

TASK 2 - SPEAKING
Would this information be useful in any other part of the IELTS test?

We could use this information in Task Two Writing (ESSAY), or in Part Three of the Speaking test.

There are often (speaking) questions which ask:
How have attitudes toward work / media / crime changed?
Find the information that relates to these questions.

How would you answer in the real test?

TASK 3 - LISTENING
Now watch the videos.
Make notes as you watch - write down the key information in a table:

1982                                                        2013

TASK 4 - WRITING

Use your notes to write a short paragraph summarising the key points mentioned in both videos.
